Finished in Raven Black (code GBA), this wagon’s paint and trim are in overall very good order, with straight and solid body, a very tidy engine bay, a cargo area that is in very good order and body-colored bumpers with foglights within and that fit tightly to the body. The car has a pair of high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps. The wagon has 25-cubic-feet with the rear seat upright and 58-cubic-feet with the rear seat folded.
Made in GM’s Lansing, Michigan factory, this wagon rolls on Michelin Pilot Sorts 4S radials, size 255/35ZR19 tires at all four corners. Each tire is mounted on a black, factory alloy wheel. The tires and wheels are all in very good overall order and there are Brembo six-piston brakes done in a contrasting yellow.
Under that hood held up by gas struts is a supercharged 6.2L supercharged OHV V-8 (code LSA) and based on the LS9 V-8 from the Chevrolet C6 Corvette ZR-1. It produces 556 hp and 551 lbs⋅ft of torque. The choice to use a pushrod engine (OHV) arrangement is unique in the luxury performance sedan market where competitors typically use dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) engines. The engine was produced in GM’s Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico engine assembly plant. The engine block is cast aluminum 319-T5 alloy with cast iron cylinder liners. The crankshaft is forged steel using powdered metal connecting rods. Pistons are high-silicon Hypereutectic Aluminum alloy replacing the forged aluminum used in the LS9 engine. The compression ratio is 9.1:1. The cylinder heads are based on the Corvette’s LS3 head and are cast from type 356-T6 Aluminum alloy. The exhaust manifolds are cast iron. The supercharger is a twin, four-lobe screw compressor-type unit displacing 1.9L. It is Eaton’s Twin Vortices Series (TVS) generating a maximum boost of 9.0 psi. Intake air is cooled with a water-to-air intercooler built directly into the supercharger unit.
Backing this motor is a GM 6L90 six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and a Positraction rear end with 3.23:1 gearing. Driver convenience features are lengthy – electronic climate control, MagneRide suspension (the dampers, filled with magnetorheological fluid, are adjusted based on sensor readings that happen at one millisecond intervals), cruise control, speed-sensitive hydraulic-assist rack-and-pinion steering, tilting and telescoping steering column, power four-wheel disc brakes, power windows, power locks, heated power sideview mirrors, Recaro eight-way power and heated front seats with memory functions, rear defroster, rear window wiper/washer Other features include a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry, pushbutton and remote engine start, rearview camera, rear parking assist, near object detection, HID headlights, foglights, headlamp washers and electronic parking brake.
Safety equipment includes dual front airbags, stability control, side-impact airbags, overhead airbags, pretensioners, anti-whiplash headrests and yellow Brembo four-wheel, six-piston brakes with anti-lock.
Inside, the wagon’s black leather interior is in overall very good order. The front buckets and rear bench seat are in overall very good order. The matching carpet and headliner are in similar shape. A leather-wrapped, three-spoke steering wheel faces the driver and there are aluminum sport pedals. An automatic dimming rearview mirror hangs above the center console. The inner door panels and instrument panel are all in very good order, as are the center console and shift lever. A factory audio-infotainment system with pop-up center screen is ready and waiting.
When asked in 2009 about the possibility of a CTS-V wagon, the GM Vice Chairman at that time, Bob Lutz, replied, "... should sufficient demand materialize, there is no reason why we couldn't do a V-Series wagon, and I would be standing in line for one, just ahead of you."
Competition to this Cadillac in 2014 included Mercedes-Benz’s CLS AMG Shooting Brake and BMW’s 550i Touring.
